If you stepped into Robin King’s studio, you would think you had entered a wonderland of paintings, fabrics and ephemera collections from the late 1800s.
Robin says she loves classic design because it never goes out of style. She carries that same theme into the decoupage papers she creates for her home accents line. All designs are inspired from her personal collection of antique prints, textile designs and French toile fabrics.
She says she has been blessed with a consistent following of repeat clients from both shows and through her online store. “I am so happy to see orders from past clients," she says. “It lets me know they really enjoy my art in their homes."
One long time collector of Robin’s work said that her tissue box covers are addicting. “Once you have one in your kitchen, you find a place for another one in a different room and then another after that and still another after that. I have one of her pieces in every room of my home.”
In addition to tissue box covers, she also creates wastepaper baskets, trays, plates, writing tables and large plaques. Creating all the designs herself, Robin is able to offer custom design services to clients and interior designers alike. It may be adding a picture of a pet to a current design or working with interior designers to create custom pieces for their client’s homes. Recently, she worked with a designer who needed twenty-four tissue box covers and wastepaper baskets sets for a home in Aspen, CO all with different mountain-themed designs. "That was a fun and challenging project," she said. "I can just imagine what a surprise it must be for guests when they see all the different tissue box covers and wastepaper baskets throughout the house."
Every one of her items is made to order and by hand with a 12-step process that includes her own signature antique crackle finish. She signs each piece before it leaves the studio.
